Date: January 7th 2010

Happy New Year! 2009 has come to a close and we've already gotten into the swing of 2010 at NOW HEAR THIS!

Here's a sneak peak at some of the things to come:

S.W.A.T. Creative Writing Residencies

Our Students, Writers and Teachers (S.W.A.T.) Creative Writing Residencies Program picks up again with the new semester in February.

We’re currently securing our line-up of über-talented Writers-in-Residence and are looking forward to an even better year of bringing creative writing to youth all across Toronto.

HEAR/HEAR Reading Series

While we work on scheduling our 2010 readings (expect 5 of them throughout the year beginning in early spring) you can check out our wonderful podcasts from previous HEAR/HEAR readings at: hear-hear.mypodcast.com

For an extra-special treat we even posted some musical performances from our 2009 Year-End party.

WRITE ON! Workshops

Our new One-Off Workshops — available to community groups, schools and other organizations looking for some creative writing guidance — will be running throughout 2010 all across Toronto.

Our beautiful new brochure has all the details on the workshops we provide as well as how to order one for your school or organization — to request your complimentary copy of the brochure, contact: Jennifer de Visser

FRIENDS & FAMILY

1) Mark your calendars: Our parent-organization Descant Magazine will be launching its latest issue – 147: Dance at the Arts & Letters Club of Toronto (14 Elm Street) on Thursday, January 28th, 2010.

The event starts at 7:30 pm and will feature readings by Vickie Fagan, Johanna Householder and Andrew Smith as well as dance performances by Nadia Szilvassy, Tom Brouillette, Alex Maeve Campbell and Mary Newberry. For more info on this launch, go here

2) One of our stellar writers-in-residence, Rebecca Rosenblum has been in the news recently as Biblioasis purchased the North American rights to her upcoming book The Big Dream, a collection of linked short stories about characters who work for the same company.

NEW & NOTEWORTHY

Our new line of STICKERS will be arriving any day now. They will be available FREE (yes, free) to any and all participants in our myriad of workshops and programs.

Don’t forget about our lovely t-shirts that debuted in December featuring artwork by Toronto artist/illustrator Michael DeForge

These limited-edition t-shirts are going to be available for purchase at NHT! events across the city in 2010 and are also available online here
